There are no new ways to wreck, crash and sink otherwise perfectly serviceable vessels, so crews simply repeat the long established methods! Recklessly negligent judgement appears to be a factor in many of these cases, the opposite that one would expect from a bridge crew. Unfortunately, many innocent people lose their lives or experience serious injuries due to these entirely foreseeable and preventable incidents. No amount of regulations, legislation, accident reports and recommendations or Coast Guard determinations will prevent future fatal incidents like these. Cultural aspects play their part, and certain areas are known for their horrific ferry disasters leading to multiple fatalities. That’s unlikely to improve anytime soon, but the innocent people whose lives are so needlessly lost deserved better…
