A battleship floats too, but you wouldn’t want to drop it on your field. It’s not about the AIR making it lighter as much as the total surface AREA in contact with the ground. Whereas a battleship has a pointed keel the tires are relatively flat. A barge would be a better representation. It’s the more square inches in contact to distribute the load than it is the overall weight. The air just inflates those tires to make them bigger, not lighter so there are more square inches to distribute the load and thus less pressure on the soil.
