Can’t see many other countries landing numerous F-18s at night, round the clock, many times over in many locations all around the world. The cost of reaching that level of strategic power in terms of diplomacy, conflict, technological development and logistical organisation is like what they say of the most important works of art – it’s incalculable, invaluable. There is no country in the world that cannot ultimately appeal to the United States for protection and military assistance when threatened by a neighbouring regime and therefore, because conflict with the United States is not winnable, there can only be one superpower for the foreseeable future.
