The Lynx landing on a flight deck was not a crash. It was a perfect seaborne recovery. I have witnessed so many like this in my role as Flight deck captain in the Royal Navy. That aircraft is designed for such deck movement and is the best in it’s class. The AW159 Wildcat is now its worthy successor. Man, I got assigned to the “helo company” back in my Jarhead days. I thought it was cool riding and fast roping out of 53s and 46s. Then we had a inbound that had a hard landing. Rotors and parts were flying everywhere. I learned why we never ran to a helicopter before it touched down and to run away whenever we hit the deck. They’re cool to be around and I get how people are attracted to get near them as they hover or play around, but the airframe AND the pilot(s) are unpredictable. Stand back lol For a split second there, watching this clip, it occured to me that helicopters should have an ejector seat. But then I realised that might make matters worse.
